Vännen Lena G tipsar om en spännande tågresa framöver. Ceres Rail Company gör flera tågresor i månaden.
Join Ceres Rail on a three-day steam tour for rail-photographers and travellers alike, starting in Cape Town on Sunday 31st March 2019 and ending in Cape Town on Tuesday 2nd April. For the photographers we will perform several photo-runpasts, where the train stops at a scenic location, passengers detrain to photograph the train steaming past before reboarding.
Overnight accommodation is provided at a Caledon hotel on the evenings of the 31st March 2019 and 1st April with breakfast and supper included. Lunches are provided either at a stop or on the train.
The train consists of 1940’s-built wooden panelled coaches that have been refurbished and include a lounge/bar car, a dining car and an observation car at the rear. The rest of the train is made up of compartment coaches, which allow passengers some privacy if they require. The locomotive will be an oil-burning Class 19D 4-8-2, either No. 3321 or 3322 (built by North British Locomotive Company in 1948).
SUNDAY 31st March 2019: Table Bay Harbour (TBH) - Caledon
Depart 08h30: We travel over the spectacular Sir Lowry’s and Houwhoek Passes. We have a short water stop at Elgin where passengers can visit the Elgin Railway Market where craft beers, coffee and other attractions are on sale. Light lunch on train. Arrive Caledon 18h00. Transfer by bus to the Caledon Casino Hotel for overnight accommodation. Supper and breakfast at hotel.
MONDAY 1st April 2019: Caledon – Bredasdorp - Caledon
Depart 06h45: An early departure for a long day on the train; but one that should be photographically rewarding. We proceed into the scenic Southern Cape wheat-lands, arriving at Bredasdorp at about 12h30. Lunch at Bredasdorp station. Once the locomotive had been watered and turned, we retrace our steps to Caledon. We arrive at Caledon at about 19h30. Transfer to the Caledon Casino Hotel for overnight accommodation. Supper and breakfast at hotel.
TUESDAY 2 April 2019: Caledon – Table Bay Harbour
Depart 08h30: A slightly later departure after yesterday’s trip for the return to Cape Town! We travel over the spectacular Houwhoek and Sir Lowry’s Passes. There will be an extended water stop at Elgin where passengers visit the Elgin Railway Market for a light lunch. Arrival in Cape Town (Table Bay Harbour) will be in the late afternoon (approximately 18h00), where the tour ends. Please note that the actual arrival time is dependent on fitting in with the other trains’ schedules in the Cape Town area and delays could occur. It is strongly recommended that passengers overnight in Cape Town and do not make any connecting flight bookings for that evening.
